Shopping

Clothing / Shoes

Korea is a land with four distinct seasons and visitors with English jobs in Korea should bring or buy clothing suited to each season.

Koreans are an extremely image-conscious people. Mirrors in every subway, clothing and beauty supply stores on almost every block are just some of the signs that Koreans spend a great deal of time thinking about their personal appearance. Therefore it should be no surprise that there are many shopping districts that carry all styles of clothing.

Shopping districts include department stores, discount stores and independent clothing stores. These stores offer a limited range of sizes. For shirts and other clothing, the sizes for adults typically run between 90-105 for men (US size XS-L), and 75-90 for women (US size 0-6). Shoes generally run to a maximum size of 285 for men (about US men's size 10) and to size 250 for women (about US women’s size 8.5). For sizes larger than XL, visitors with English jobs in Korea should try the larger international department stores.

You can also consider the many flea markets available throughout Korea. In these markets, haggling is encouraged, making shopping an adventure in itself.

Electronics / Appliances

Korea is definitely a wired country, with gadgets readily available to tantalize the inner techie in all of us. As global electronics giants LG and Samsung are headquartered in South Korea, it's no wonder that electronic goods are so wide spread on the peninsula, you can shop for cell phones, MP3 players, electronic dictionaries, computers, GPS systems, to kimchi refrigerators.

Souvenirs

In all big cities, and at every culturally significant temple, palace, monument or museum, you will find venders peddling traditional Korean goods. Small, inexpensive goods such as toys or key chains can be purchased seemingly anywhere and make the perfect gift for your friends and relatives back home.

Visitors with English jobs in Korea can find larger, pricier items that can be purchased from venders in shops offering ceramic pieces, gold jewellery, traditional wood works and paintings.
