FAQ
For teachers who are looking for work.
- Q. Can you provide me a general idea of what will happen once I arrive in Korea?
- A. A driver from Think Outside will meet you at the airport and will either transport you directly to your school or to your apartment. A staff member, your driver or the landlord will give you a key to your apartment. The following morning the school will contact you to arrange a time for you to meet the school staff and obtain training. Training at your school could last a few hours or a few days depending upon your school's policies. If you have any questions, feel free to send us an email at ask@thinkoutsiderecruiting.com or contact your recruiter directly.
- Q. I don't know how to speak Korean and I am concerned that when I arrive in Korea I will not be able to communicate with the driver at the airport.
- A. Your driver will be able to communicate with you. He or she will contact your recruiter in Korea to let them know that you have arrived and are traveling to your apartment. You can also call your recruiter at any time using the cell phone number that you have been provided. For general information such as transportation information in English you can call 1330, a service provided by the Korean government. Please review and print the language section to learn useful Korean words and phrases.
- Q. Will my pre-arranged accommodations be available for me from the day I arrive in Korea?
- A. The school will provide housing from the day you start working. If you plan to arrive a lot earlier than your start date you should consider booking a guest house. Keep in mind that the schools are flexible and arrangements can be made with the school prior to your arrival in Korea.
- Q. What documents do I need to have with me at all times?
- A. A passport and Alien Registration Card (ARC).
- Q. My working visa expires when my contract ends; if I want to continue to teach English in Korea for an additional length of time, how do I acquire another visa?
- A. If you finish a contract and wants to transfer to another public school for another year you do not need to leave the country to obtain a new E2 visa. With the appropriate documents, you can transfer the visa sponsor, to the new school from the current school. This process needs to take place at the immigration office nearest to the new school.
Please note that if the new position is at a private language institute, you will have to obtain a new E2 visa. - Q. Can I start looking for work before my current job ends?
- A. Yes, you can. A lot of teachers start looking for another position before their current job ends. However, please note that you may only start the visa process after finishing your contract with your current school.
- Q. If I need to return home before I begin another English teaching position in Korea, how can I leave Korea without affecting my visa process?
- A. Once you return your alien card at the airport, your visa will be cancelled automatically. That means you are no longer E2 visa sponsored by your school. You can leave Korea as long as you want to, but when you wish to return to Korea, you will have to start the visa process again.
