Salary & Benefits

Salary
The salary for teaching positions in Korea varies from school to school but is usually from 1.8M won to 2.6M won per month. (Roughly US $1700 to $2500 / CA $1800 to $2600.
Contract period
Each term of employment is one year.
Airfare
For ESL teachers residing outside of Korea, a one-way ticket to Korea will be reimbursed within 30 days after employee's arrival in Korea. Upon completion of the contract, a one-way ticket home will be provided. The airfare is based on economy class and is the most direct flight available from his/her residence to the Incheon International Airport in Korea. English teachers residing in Korea will make the E2 visa issuance trip to the nearest consulate and will have the round trip airfare reimbursed within 30 days upon commencement of work at the school. Upon completion of the contract, a one-way ticket to the employee's foreign residence shall be provided. The airfare is based on economy class.
Severance Pay
Upon completion of a one-year teaching job in Korea, the employer shall pay the ESL teacher an extra 30 days average wage as severance pay for the employee's continuous employment of one year.
Holidays
An instructor with a teaching job in Korea is entitled to paid leave of 14 to 35 working days, depending on the job, during the term of employment. Paid leave may be taken when school is not in session, and must be approved by the school's principal at least 15 days in advance. Saturdays and Sundays do not count as vacation days.
Sick leave
The English teacher shall be entitled to a paid sick leave if an illness or injury prevents him/her from performing the duties under this contract, provided, however, that he/she obtains the employer's prior consent.
Housing
An instructor with a teaching job in Korea shall be provided with housing by the employer. All efforts will be made to provide an apartment within walking distance to the school, or to transport facilities as indicated by the ESL teacher.
Medical insurance
The employer shall provide medical insurance pursuant to The National Health Insurance Act of Korea (The National Health Insurance Act states all government employees will be liable for 50% of costs) to instructors with teaching positions in Korea.
Income Tax and Pension Plan
Korean Income Tax (approx. 5% is exempted for foreigners, except for Canadians, for the first two employment years in Korea) and the National Pension Contribution (approx. 9% of which the Employer pays for half and refundable for US and Canadian citizens only at the end of the contract term) will be deducted from a teachers' pay as per a normal government employee.
Housing deposit
Instructors with teaching positions in Korea shall be responsible for, and protect the employer from, any liability or damages arising from, or in relation to any negligent, faulty, or illegal activity during the Term of Employment under this contract. As a safety deposit, 300,000 Korean won per month will be deducted from the English teachers' salary for the first 3 months of employment until it amounts to a total of 900,000 Korean won. This protects the employer from any liability or damages. The ESL teacher shall be refunded the whole amount before the termination of the contract.
